GarageCheck: Drivers privacy policy
Last updated: 29 October 2026
Who we are
GarageCheck: Drivers is a free app for UK drivers to check MOT history and get reminders. It is provided by Pedro Campelo, trading as GarageCheck, in the United Kingdom ("we"), who decides how your data is used (the controller). Contact: garagecheckhq@gmail.com.
What we collect
- Sign-in: when you sign in with Google we receive your name, email address and a unique account ID.
- Saved cars: the registration, make and model of cars you save, and their MOT and tax due dates.
- Lookups: how many cars you looked up each day, to keep the service fair. The registrations you look up are not stored against your account.
- App integrity checks by Google (Play Integrity and Firebase App Check) to block misuse.
We do not show adverts, use advertising or analytics tracking, or sell data.
Where vehicle information comes from
When you look up a car, we send its registration to the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) for its MOT history, and may send it to the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) for its tax status. We do not send them your name or account. MOT data contains public sector information licensed under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
Who processes it for us
- Google Firebase and Google Cloud (sign-in, database, server, app checks). Your data is stored in London.
Google may process data outside the UK under its standard data protection terms.
On your phone
MOT and tax reminders are scheduled on your phone and shown as notifications. You can turn them off in your phone's settings at any time.
Why we use it
- To provide the app: lookups, saved cars and reminders (contract).
- To keep the service secure and fair, including daily lookup limits (legitimate interests).
Young people
The app is meant for drivers. Please do not use it if you are under 16.
How long we keep it
- Your sign-in, saved cars and daily lookup counts are kept until you delete your account.
- MOT and tax results are kept for up to 6 hours so the next lookup of the same car is faster. They do not record who looked the car up.
Your rights
You can ask for access to, correction, deletion or a copy of your data, and object to or restrict its use, by emailing garagecheckhq@gmail.com. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. To delete your account, see Delete your Drivers account.
This app is separate from GarageCheck for garages. If a garage that uses GarageCheck holds records about you, contact that garage.
Changes
We will update this page and the date above when the policy changes.
