Who we are

GarageCheck is a vehicle inspection app for independent garages, provided by Pedro Campelo, trading as GarageCheck, in the United Kingdom ("we"). Contact: garagecheckhq@gmail.com.

Two kinds of data

  1. Your account data. When you or your staff use GarageCheck, we decide how this data is used and are the controller.
  2. Your garage's customer records. The customers, vehicles, inspections and photos a garage records. The garage controls this data; we process it on the garage's behalf. Garage customers should contact the garage first about their data.

What we collect

  • Account: email address; first name, surname, date of birth and age (to confirm you are 16 or over); whether you are a garage owner or technician; a unique account ID; and the garages you belong to. We also keep which version of our Terms of Service and this policy you agreed to, and when. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name and email from Google. If you ask to join a garage, its owner sees your name.
  • Garage details: the garage's name, address, phone, email, website and logo, used on reports.
  • Garage records you enter: customer names, phone numbers and emails; vehicle registrations, makes, models and mileage; inspection results, notes, measurements, prices and the technician's name; and photos you take or choose.
  • Report emails: when a garage emails a report, we send the PDF to the customer's email address. We keep a record that an email was sent, but not the address itself.
  • Subscription: plan, status, billing period and usage counts. Google Play processes in-app payments and tells us the subscription's status. We never receive full card details.
  • Crash reports, only if you agree: the type and place of an error, device model, Android version and a random installation ID. No account ID or garage records. You choose when you create your account and can change it any time in Settings → Crash reports.
  • App integrity checks by Google (Play Integrity and Firebase App Check) to block misuse.

We do not show adverts, use advertising or analytics tracking, or sell data.

Who processes it for us

  • Google Firebase and Google Cloud (sign-in, database, photo storage, crash reports, app checks). Garage records and photos are stored in London.
  • Resend sends report emails, from its EU (Ireland) region.
  • Google Play processes subscription payments.

Some of these providers may process data outside the UK under their standard data protection terms.

On your phone

Garage records are also kept on the phones that use the garage, so the app works without signal. Garage details, logo and settings are kept on the phone that set them. PDF reports and backups you export are saved or shared where you choose. Android's own backup of app data is switched off; use GarageCheck's backup.

Why we use it

  • To provide the service (contract).
  • To keep accounts and garage data secure, and to confirm users are 16 or over (legitimate interests and legal obligations).
  • For billing and tax records (legal obligation).
  • To fix crashes, only if you agree (consent; you can withdraw it in Settings).

Young people

GarageCheck is a work tool for garages. You must be 16 or over to create an account; the app asks for your date of birth and refuses anyone younger. Garage records belong to the garage, not to the young person, and we do not use them for any other purpose.

How long we keep it

  • Garage records stay while the garage account exists, including after a subscription ends (they can still be viewed and exported).
  • If an owner closes a garage, there are 14 days to change their mind; then the garage's records, photos and staff access are deleted.
  • If you delete your account, your sign-in, profile and memberships are deleted. Records you created for a garage (for example your name as technician) belong to the garage and stay with it.
  • After deletion we keep billing records for 6 years, and a short record of the deletion and of free trials used for 2 years.
  • Copies on phones, exported PDFs, emailed reports and backups are controlled by whoever holds them.

Your rights

You can ask for access to, correction, deletion or a copy of your data, and object to or restrict its use, by emailing garagecheckhq@gmail.com. You can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. To delete your account, see Delete your account. Garage customers should contact their garage.

Changes

We will update this page and the date above when the policy changes, and ask you to agree again in the app.
